We will study what is widely considered the most important amendment to the Constitution, and we will deepen our understanding of both the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion. We will look at Supreme Court cases and analyze what it really means to have free speech, as we look at concepts like hate speech and prior restraints to speech as well as understand what it means to establish a religion under the 1st Amendment.

A class that will expose you to ideas taught in law schools around the United States, Criminal Law, Part 1, teaches you to think like a lawyer. Here, we will learn about the basic elements of a crime, as well as learning about Crimes Against the Person, including murder, manslaughter, and kidnapping.

This class is all about the 4th Amendment, and its protection against unreasonable searches and seizures by government officials. We will look at what it takes to get a search warrant, the exceptions to a search warrant (there are many!), and what the police can and cannot do during interrogations.

This class explores torts, which is a civil wrong (which means these are not crimes). The goal of Tort Law is to make someone whole when they have been injured by another party, such as a personal injury, harm to property, or wrongful death. We will explore both intentional torts and negligence in this course, which are foundational to understanding the practice of law.

A class that builds from Criminal Law, Part 1; Criminal Law, Part 2, will dive deeper into crimes with Crimes Against Property, which includes larceny (stealing), burglary, and robbery. We will then study criminal defenses, from insanity to entrapment, while capping off the class with a test that covers everything from Part 1 and 2 – a true test of how to think like a lawyer.

We continue our exploration of Tort Law as we get into topics that enhance our understanding of negligence like professional malpractice (doctors and lawyers), product liability, and public and private nuisance laws. After finishing this class, a student will have a deeper understanding of how actual law is practiced, and the student will be a much better thinker after having to prove and understand the concepts in Tort Law.
